If you are here visiting for the Neutral Home Decor Blog Hop, welcome! I am so glad you have decided to stop on by and say hello. It has been a great week of inspiring neural winter home decor, I hope you have enjoyed coming along for the ride.
(For your Convenience, I have added the list of everyone on the Neutral Winter Decor Blog Hop at the Bottom of this post)
Honestly, after Christmas was over, I was dreading taking down my Christmas Decor. I loved the cozy feel of the twinkling lights from the Christmas tree, and the warm and fuzzy feeling from all things Christmas.
I wanted to be able to still have the cozy winter vibes without all the clutter of the Christmas Decor. I think I found the perfect mix using: pillows, cozy knits, blankets and candles.
For this post, I want to share with you how you can create a cozy winter vibe in your home with 4 easy steps:

1: Use Texture
Lots of baskets, woven pillows, throws, and rugs are the most important things to create a cozy home. I am not lying when I say I might have 20 or more baskets around my house that I use for all sorts of things. I love baskets because of how versatile they can be. You can use them for plants, add blankets or pillows to them, use for toy storage, and lots more.
Throw blankets in a variety of fabrics can add another layer of texture. I have blankets that are woven, knit, faux fir, with pom-poms, and the list goes on. My littles are always using the blankets to keep cozy during these cold winter months. You can never have enough!
When we got our wood tile installed in our home, my husband couldn’t understand why I needed to add rugs. I love my wood tile, but rugs define a space, and make any room more cozy and warm. We have a variety of rugs in our home, but I do love a good Jute rug like this one below. It goes with any decor, and you can even layer another rug with a jute rug to create more depth and dimension.
My bedroom rug has the texture of a woven sweater and is perfect for the winter months. I added an extra duvet folded on my bed for another layer of dimension, topped with a cozy throw blanket. Who wouldn’t want to crawl up in this space?
2: Add Greenery
When the christmas tree and garland was packed a way, I missed all the greenery. A way to add more warmth to you home is to add back in the greens. You can use faux or real, whatever you prefer. I tend to kill any plant I buy so I stick with the faux stuff. I added greenery in my mantel decor, my tablescapes, and just small touches throughout my home.
The succulents are the perfect transition from winter to spring. This was my first time using succulents in my decor, and I promise you, it won’t be the last.
I am loving eucalyptus this year! I do love the smell of real eucalyptus but the faux stems are more practical so you can use them all year round. My go to places for faux flowers and stems are always Hobby Lobby and Michaels.
Wreaths are also an excellent way to bring more greenery to your home. I adore any Magnolia wreath, you can find a similar one here. What I love about Magnolia wreaths is that they really will go with any season and with any decor.
3: Pillows and More Pillows
Oh my, I may have a pillow obsession. I don’t know what it is about me and pillows but when I find one in a store that I LOVE, I can’t say no. The best advice I have for all my fellow pillow lovers is: when possible: just buy the pillow case. This way, you can easily change out the cases for each season, and instead are not stuck with storing tons of pillows (like me).
What I love about decorating with pillows is that they come in all types of fabrics and textures. This winter I am loving the chunky knit pillows and the faux fir.
I tend to go a bit overboard on the pillows on my bed, but I love the look it creates. I just want to jump up and down, have a pillow fight and stay up all night watching movies in this space.
What is cozier then a candle? Candles add the perfect glow to your winter decor. I added simple antique candles to my mantle, and placed more candles throughout my home. I love when the sun goes down and I can go around and light up my home with candlelight. It creates the most perfect vibe, not to mention my house also smells AMAZING. Candles are my go to item to decorate with, I also used them in my simple dinning centerpiece.
Additional Tips and Tricks for a Cozy Home:
- Use lamps, candles and fairy lights over overhead bright lights. I never have the overhead lights on in my home, and oddly enough this is something I have always done, even as a kid.
- You do not have to have a perfect home, this is my BEST advice that I learned from following along with Brooke from Nesting with Grace, who is my favorite blogger. To achieve a cozy home, the more it looks lived in the cozier it will be.
- The best way to have a cozy home is to enjoy it! Kick your feet up, start a fire, put on your pjs and cozy on up in your favorite room in your home. Winter will be over soon enough!
I hope you enjoyed your visit and found some helpful tips to help you decorate your home this winter.
